Who am I?

My name is Mary Burton

I am a qualified and chartered physiotherapist with 17 years clinical experience.

I have worked in many fields of Physiotherapy, predominantly in rehabilitation, but my life changed 8 years ago when I had my first baby. Since then, I have had the best job in the world looking after my son and more recently my little girl. Four years ago I  undertook further courses to become qualified as an Aqua Aerobics instructor and then have worked to become a certified Aquanatal instructor. I continue to work as a Physiotherapist – most recently working in neurological rehabilitation. I do not work full time with sports people although I have done so in the past. I understand what it is to feel limited and I try to set achievable goals with my clients and work comfortably within the parameters in which each individual feels comfortable.

One of the things about having children is that one cannot know until one has been through the experience how to do it better. I have to admit that personally I made plenty of mistakes, more than my fair share. It was for my own health that I began to research and learn how to do pregnancy childbirth and the early years better. I do not do this job  because I am a big know-it-all who did everything correctly; I share what I learned with others at my classes, believing resolutely that being a fitter parent will prepare you so much better for childbirth and child care than pretty much any time or money investment that you could possibly make.

Painting the nursery; colour coordinating the clothes; choosing a high chair: all these take time and money and yet so many people choose to do these activities but will not prioritise health and well being of the mum.

Mums: you are very very important people. Take some time to be sure you are at your best when you meet this new person in your life.
